Harbor Springs, Michigan, circa 1906. "Excursion logging train." The smallest train I can recall seeing
Full write up at: http://phreddy.tumblr.com/post/408535916/schienenzeppelin-frame

these just put follish notions in my head of getting one and making a summer place out of it, or making it railroad safe, and paying a railroad company to link up and see America by rail in my own car.... not that I have a nickel to my name, but you have to start with a dream, a hope, and if everything works out, you may see it all happen. Just look at how this blog started as things I posted so I could email a link to friends instead of emailing them all the cool and fun stuff I come across!
Lots of cool photos over at the HAMB, here's a couple from a thread about the history of Los Angeles

Very cool socket wrench holder! That's clever!
The engine careened across almost 98 ft of the station concourse, crashed through a 2 foot thick wall, shot across a terrace and sailed out of the station, plummeting onto the Place de Rennes 33 ft below, where it stood on its nose. All on board the train survived, five sustaining injuries: two passengers (out of 131), the fireman and two conductors; however, one woman on the street below was killed by falling masonry. The accident was caused by a faulty Westinghouse brake and the engine drivers who were trying to make up for lost time. A conductor incurred a 25 franc penalty and the engine driver a 50 franc penalty.

A WW1 mobile carrier pigeon coup... yes, that was the best communication technique they had available in the field of battle .
I've posted somehting about this before, and just can't recall what... beyond there was just one that made it through the years and still exists, was a 1920's car but only on 2 wheels, the little buggy wheels are for holding it up at stops

Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion, one of two to survive, probably number 3 of the trio Fuller made. One was found in the backyard of a Arizona suburb in the early 70's by a Car Life reader after they did a story on the Dymaxions, by a fan of Fullers interesting cars. It wasn't bought by a collector, though Harrah's buyers tried, a couple college students got money together and then let it be shown in Museums in the US... more on this story in another post.
